# Word unscrambler

Type the letters you have and see every word they make, longest first. Use a question mark for a blank tile or a letter you do not have yet.

## How to use the unscrambler

Type your letters in any order. Each letter can be used once per word, so two Es in a word need two Es in your letters. A question mark (or an asterisk) is a blank tile: it can stand for any letter, and the letters it supplies are underlined in red in the results.

The filters narrow the list without changing your letters: **Starts with**, **Ends with** and **Contains** keep only words with those letters in that place, which helps when part of the word is already on a board or in a crossword. **Only words that use every letter** shows true anagrams.

Words come from ENABLE, a public-domain list of about 173,000 English words long used by word games. It includes plurals and verb forms, but not names, abbreviations or hyphenated words, and some games accept words it lacks (or the other way round). A short list of slurs and swear words is hidden unless you untick “Hide rude words”.

**Does a word game want an account before you can play?** Many word-game apps and puzzle sites ask for an email address first. A free temporary inbox from [CleanTempMail](https://cleantempmail.com/) keeps those sign-up emails out of your real one.

## Questions

**How many blanks can I use?**

As many as you like, but each one multiplies the results; two or three is plenty. Letters and blanks together are limited to 20.

**Why is a word I know missing?**

ENABLE leaves out proper nouns, abbreviations and some newer or British spellings. It may also be on the hidden list of rude words.

**Does it work without an internet connection?**

Yes, after the first search. The word list is saved by your browser, so later visits work offline.
